Abstract

The chapter focuses attention on the resources or “community capitals” that co-creation efforts harness to bring about effective outcomes. The chapter begins by describing the basic structures of co-creation processes and governance factors, recognizing the strong emphasis on process and institutional infrastructure. The chapter then turns to a review of the literature relating to the Community Capitals Framework (CFF), and the seven different forms of community capital that comprise it: social, cultural, human, political, financial, built and natural. The CCF is then applied to a set of cases drawn from the GOGREEN catalogue. References to specific texts of the written cases were coded for each of the seven capitals. The chapter provides the first effort to apply the CCF framework to co-creation theory, adding an important addition to co-creation theory. This study finds that all seven forms of community capital are evident in all five cases. Several co-creation governance factors appear to be critical in both using and creating community capitals. Implications for further theoretical, empirical and practical applications are provided.
