In this editorial for the special issue of the International Journal of Action Research (Vol. 21, Issue 3/2025), Malida Mooken and Patricia Canto-Farachala serve as guest editors to explore how the field of action research can expand its reach, transcend traditional boundaries, and foster systemic change. Grounded in the reflections and papers stemming from the 7th IJAR Symposium in Montreal, the text connects the editors' own personal and professional journeys from the Global South to critical contemporary challenges. It addresses the urgent need for action researchers to engage with social and political movements, confront epistemic injustices, and dismantle Eurocentric knowledge hegemonies amid ongoing global crises, such as unregulated generative AI development, socioeconomic inequalities, and environmental degradation.
