The Orkestra researchers Miren Estensoro and Edurne Magro presented research work about The Role of Cities in Regional Smart Specialisation Strategies: a Matter of Policy-learning, at the 2015 UACES Congress held on 7th, 8th and 9th September at the University of Deusto

The congress, organised by the University Asocciation for Contemporary European Studies-UACES, focuses on aspects related to the challenges being faced by the European Union. Along these lines, the work presented by the Orkestra researchers identifies the key elements required to promote a model of multi-level governance regarding smart specialisation strategies, which is currently being promoted by the EU via the smart specialisation platform (RIS3),  taking the city as a reference point.  The analysis presented constitutes the fruits of reflection about the work within the action research project carried out by the authors in conjunction with the City Council of Bilbao (BilbaoNextLab).

This 45th congress brought together over 600 experts and academics who had the chance to learn first hand about details of the 400 research projects being presented. The following were covered over three days: subjects were covered over three days: issues related to jurisprudence, European policies, the outlook and recent behaviour of EU countries, their relationship, the EU’s capacity as an international player and energy policy, among others.

UACES is a European body that promotes knowledge and interdisciplinary research about the European Union by organising events, co-funding research activities and publishing books and journals such as the Journal of Contemporary European Research and the Journal of Common market Studies.
