The Institute of Strategy and Competitiveness of Harvard University, directed by Michael Porter, recently expressed special recognition of Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness of Deusto University for its evolution and the international influence attained during its first ten years of life. This acknowledgement took place during the annual meeting held by the members of the MOC (Microeconomics of Competitiveness) Network, promoted by Harvard Business School, and attended by representatives of 130 universities from all over the world.
The recognition of Orkestra’s activity and evolution was two-fold: on the one hand, the presentation of the Orkestra Case in Harvard, and on the other, the induction of its director general, Mari Jose Aranguren into the “Hall of Fame”, adding her name to those of influential personalities from all over the world in acknowledgement of her contribution to territorial competitiveness.
The presentation of the Orkestra Case, prepared by Harvard University, underlines the unique value of the Basque Institute of Competitiveness and its capacity to combine academic research and training with the development of different projects in collaboration with other agents from the territory, both public and private. The Harvard cases are a worldwide reference, and the fact that a case study has been undertaken of Orkestra confers enormous prestige upon the Institute and greatly strengthens its international position.
The induction of Mari Jose Aranguren into the “Hall of Fame” of Harvard’s Institute of Strategy and Competitiveness represents an acknowledgement of her career and of the activity developed by Orkestra in the process of transformation of the economic and business environment of the Basque Country, generating significant new knowledge in areas of competitiveness and with an increasing international influence in aspects related to territorial competitiveness.
Michael Porter himself, Professor at Harvard University and world expert in strategy and competitiveness, has highlighted Orkestra’s role and the experience of the Basque Country as an international reference in the promotion of cluster policies and competitiveness. In this context, the name of Mari Jose Aranguren joins, in the “Hall of Fame”, that of the ex-vice president of the Basque Country Jon Azua, professor and research fellow of the MOC Network and member of the Competitiveness Advisory Group of the World Economic Forum.
