Orkestra has published a document by Jon Azua titled The Competitive Advantage of Nations. A Successful Experience, Realigning the Strategy to Transform the Economic and Social Development of the Basque Country.
Prepared especially for the first edition of the Basque Cluster Day, the event organised by Orkestra and the Basque Government through SPRI, provides an overview of the evolution of the competitiveness concept since the publication of The Competitive Advantage of Nations, by Michael E. Porter, but referring to the Basque Country. Azua analyses the new economy-society challenge; looks into the new needs, instruments and aspirations of the economy of the Basque Country; delves into the keys of the new Basque and world economy; and finalises with a reflection on the new station in which we find ourselves in “this long journey to competitiveness”.
Jon Azua, who was the Vice President and Minister of the Basque Government during the 80s was also the promoter of collaborations with Michael E. Porter of the University of Harvard. This collaboration has continued for a quarter of a century. Jon Azua was also the Chairman of Orkestra’s Advisory Board during the initial phases of the Institute.
His work has been published in Cuadernos Orkestra, a collection of monographic publications about Orkestra’s research areas, from both a theoretical and applied perspective. It is available in Spanish, Basque and English.
