Edurne Magro defended the need to monitor and evaluate smart specialisation strategies during the European workshop on smart specialisation evaluation, held today in Bologna (Italy). During her presentation she explained the added value given by the continual monitoring and evaluating of these kinds of strategies and policies.
The session organised by the S3 platform for smart specialisation of the European Commission, aimed at sharing experiences and challenges in the field of monitoring and evaluating RIS3 strategies of three European territories: the region Emilia-Romagna and host of the event, Sweden and Poland. Additionally, the results of the survey carried out by the S3 platform within these European regions on the potential problems and challenges that exist when monitoring these types of strategies were presented during the session. Based on these experiences, the session searched for concrete actions to create a solid monitoring model of policies oriented at implanting smart specialisation strategies.
Edurne Magro, who was invited as an expert in RIS3 evaluation and monitoring, by the S3 platform of the European Commission, shared the table with Fredrik Rakar, of the University of Kristiansand (Norway), with whom she debated about whether the evaluation of these types of strategies is truly a new challenge to be taken into account.
