  • Orkestra will collaborate with the Institute for Global Local Culture Studies (IGLCS) to share knowledge on the socio-economic impacts of population change.

Orkestra has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute for Global Local Culture Studies (IGLCS) at Daejeon University in South Korea. This partnership will enable both institutions to deepen their research and knowledge-sharing in the social and human sciences, focusing on pressing global challenges such as population decline, socioeconomic development and talent attraction.

One of the main research areas of the IGLCS is addressing the causes and consequences of population decline in Korean cities, a growing challenge for many regions around the world. Orkestra’s expertise in clusters, collaborative ecosystems, and shared value approaches aligns closely with IGLCS’s work on the socio-economic impacts of population changes.

Particularly, the collaboration will explore how fourth sector organizations and collaborative ecosystems can play a transformative role in fostering positive cycles of development. This is in line with Orkestra's current research into the challenges and opportunities presented by the demographic and social transition.

Looking ahead

The scope of the collaboration will involve a range of activities designed to facilitate mutual learning and advance joint research. These will include participation in seminars and academic meetings, the promotion of dialogue, and the exchange of academic materials and research findings.

According to James Wilson, Orkestra’s research director, “there is a lot of scope for mutual learning across territories that are facing similar challenges in very different contexts, and working with IGLCS in the coming years will further both institutions’ missions of advancing knowledge and promoting sustainable development in their territories”.
