The Energy Department of Orkestra will present the report "Energy Prices and Industrial Competitiveness". The work will analyse the impact of energy costs (gas, electricity and others), and their evolution upon the competitive development of our industry. The research will focus in particular upon those sectors whose energy consumption is most intense, such as: steel -making, rubber, glass, cement and paper.
Thus the analysis performed by the Orkestra researchers reflects the significance of energy in industrial competitiveness, whilst also evaluating other parameters such as: productivity, labour costs per employee, unit labour costs and level of innovation. The work also refers to company size and defines who the competitors of Basque and Spanish companies are. The objective is to answer the question of how price changes as a consequence of energy policy affect industrial competitiveness, which will entail analysis of the energy costs of reference countries from the point of view of competitiveness, for example: Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Italy and the UK. Finally it will measure the impact of variations in energy prices upon the price of products.
The following will participate in the presentation:
- Emiliano López Atxurra: President of the Committee of Patrons of the Chair in Energy of Orkestra.
