Abstract

This report reviews the current situation of energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources in the residential and commercial sectors. It analyzes the context in the European Union, Spain and the Basque Country and identifies and describes the main challenges to be overcome in order to advance in the decarbonization of these sectors, which include environmental, economic-financial, regulatory and market, technological and social aspects. In addition, different ways and tools are proposed to increase energy efficiency and the penetration of renewable energy in these sectors and to materialize the environmental, economic and social opportunities generated by the decarbonization of buildings and commercial companies.
