Patricia Canto was invited to take part in the course ‘Communication and Territory’ organised by the Centre for Development and Territory Studies of the University of San Martin, Argentina. This distance learning course, found within the Regional Training Programme on Local Economic Development with Social Inclusion (ConectaDEL), looks to “strengthen capacities and competences for conceptualization, design and management of communicative processes in the territory with a pedagogical approach for knowledge management and territorial learning”. Participants in the course had varying profiles, such as professors, communicators or facilitators of territorial development processes.
During the forum titled “Experience Dialogues”, Patricia provided a reflection on ‘what’ and ‘how’ to communicate in territorial development processes, and shared Orkestra’s experience. Space for dialogue included reflections from participants, who coincided in highlighting the importance of both, although pointed out that ‘how’ to communicate determines in a large degree the capacity of the impact of ‘what’ is communicated. Comments were made regarding the importance of including, from the very beginning, the figure of the communicator in territorial development processes, as well as keeping in mind the concept of time when dealing with this communication.
