The Basque Institute of Competitiveness (Orkestra) at the University of Deusto appoints new chairman. Iván Martén Uliarte has taken up the position held by Ignacio Mª Echeberría since 2011.
Iván Martén is a Doctor Summa Cum Laude in Economic Sciences. He has over thirty years professional experience in strategic consulting advising companies and governments. He combines his solid international and business experience and strong Basque identity. He is currently an independent advisor to various businesses and institutions such as: The University of Deusto’s Board of Directors, the Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics (ESADEgeo), Tubacex, Energy Access Platform, T2 Energy Transition Fund, or Aspen Institute.
Martén is a renowned speaker on energy, environmental and geopolitical issues. He has taken part in a number of forums like the International Energy Forum, World Future Energy Summit, or the Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable, and has collaborated with several international universities.
Iván Martén’s appointment as chairman allows to reinforce Orkestra’s vocation as a benchmark research institute committed to improving the competitiveness and well-being of Basque society. His contact with the business reality enhances a work model based on joint projects with institutions and companies that help to generate action-oriented knowledge (43 publications and papers, and 39 collaborations with institutions and companies in 2018) on the socio-economic challenges faced by the Basque Country.
His appointment also allows to broaden Orkestra’s international outreach. At present, this institution carries out activities with the Harvard University, The Competitiveness Institute (TCI), the Inter-American Competitiveness Network (RIAC) and other leading academic networks.
