Cristina Iturrioz-Landart is a Professor in the Department of Management at Deusto Business School-University of Deusto and collaborates with Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness as a Senior Associate Researcher on various projects related to her research activity, particularly linked to the study of the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises; family businesses; territorial roots and the evaluation of public policies.
Throughout her university career, Cristina has held various institutional responsibilities in the university sphere, including Vice-Rector for Research and Transfer at the University of Deusto; as well as Vice-Dean of Research, Vice-Dean of Academic Planning and, until 2012, Principal Investigator of the research team ‘Competitiveness and Economic Development’ which, under her coordination, obtained official recognition for the first time in the Basque Government's competitive call for support for research groups (currently recognised in category A). Cristina is also a member of the Research Ethics Committee at the University of Deusto and was responsible for giving the inaugural lecture for the 2024-25 academic year entitled ‘Roots: Leveraging synergies between people, business and territory’ and at the conference celebrated for the Día de la Empresa 2025 organised by ADEGI entitled ‘Roots in times of uncertainty’.
Throughout her career, Cristina has participated in numerous competitive and collaborative research projects, supervised doctoral theses, and published books, book chapters, and articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Business Ethics, Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, European Management Journal, Management Decision, Journal of Family Business Strategy, European Planning Studies, Papers in Regional Science, Business Ethics: a European Review, and Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, among others. Noteworthy among her transfer activities is her work as co-editor of the open knowledge platform on business management, Deusto Business Open Alumni, and the journal Economic Studies Bulletin.
