Malida joined Orkestraas a researcher in 2025. Her work is centred on territorial development, paying particular attention to issues of political economy, governance arrangements, democracy and epistemic (in)justice.
She has 15 years of experience in developing action research processes and facilitating strategic collaboration amongst territorial actors. An integral part of the projects has been to forge international connections to deepen experiences and actionable knowledge. She is interested in the roles that universities and researchers play in such processes. Another aspect of her work has been to develop creative spaces and dialogue to engage citizens on socio-economic issues that impact territorial development.
Before joining Orkestra, from 2015 to 2024, she worked at the University of British Columbia in Canada. She held various responsibilities as a researcher, lecturer and Program Director for a post-experience Master of Management.
She has a BSc Management with Finance from the University of Mauritius. Following this, she worked as an Assistant Compliance and Legal Officer in an international management company before continuing her academic path in England and Scotland. She has a Master of Economic Competitiveness and International Business from the University of Birmingham and a PhD in Socio-Management from the University of Stirling.
Malida is an editor of the International Journal of Action Research and contributes to active research communities such as Zubigintza, Action Research Plus and Qualitative Research Lab – Global South.
She has published reports and peer-review articles on territorial development and action research.
