Antonio Llarden Energia Orkestra

Antonio Llardén, chairman of Enagás participated today in a series of conferences on energy and competitiveness hosted by the Energy Department of Orkestra and DeustoForum.

In his presentation titled “Natural gas infrastructures and networks. The gas sector in the Basque Country” he dealt with several aspects related to the geopolitics of energy, gas infrastructures and climate change.

Llardén highlighted the need to unify the different energy policies being developed in a common framework that allows progress to be made in finding tools to favour the competitiveness of the sector and as a consequence of the European economy and industry.

He also pointed out that “evolving towards a unique gas regulation would allow greater operability in the fight against climate change”, and highlighted the work that is being carried out by the Juncker Commission in this field.

During his intervention he reviewed the situation of gas infrastructures, and the need to support the development of gas corridors so that Europe can operate in its own open and competitive market, guaranteeing the supply’s security.

He announced that by the end of the year the new Irun compression station will be finalised, which will allow the gas flow towards France from the Euskadour connection, to multiply by ten, and stressed the potential of the Basque Country to advance in the development of this sector, a territory in which the gas demand has increased by 3.5% in the last year.

The event also included the participation of Pilar Urruticoechea, general director of EVE (Basque Energy Agency) and member of the Energy Department’s Sponsor Committee at Orkestra; Eloy Álvarez Pelegry, director of the Energy Department at Orkestra; and José Luis de Val, chairman of DeustoForum.
