Jorge Fernández Gómez, has been named coordinator of the Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness at the University of Deusto. He will take over from Eloy Álvarez Pelegry, who has headed the department until now.
The new coordinator has broad experience in the energy field. He was previously analytics manager at MIBGAS, where he worked on strategy, regulation and market research; technical manager of Iberian Gas Hub, where he worked on development and implementation of the Iberian Peninsula gas hub and led the intermediation services on the wholesale natural gas market for the company; assistant general manager of Intermoney-Energía, where he led a specialist consultancy team on analysis and operations of energy markets and directed projects related to trading and risk management on energy markets, regulation and design of the electric market or the Energy and Society project; consultant at NERA Economic Consulting, where he focused on projects related to analysis of regulated activities in the electricity industry and electricity market operations.
PhD in Economics, Georgetown University (Washington), Jorge Fernández, has written numerous articles in specialist journals and books on energy market regulations and operation.
His leadership tasks will focus on driving and analysing energy transition processes towards a sustainable economy from the environmental point of view. Another key aspect will be development of new sustainable mobility models using alternative energy sources such as electricity or natural gas. The energy transition process towards an environmentally sustainable economy and initiatives to develop new sustainable mobility models using alternative energies such as electricity or natural gas is also a key area.
