Euskaltel has reinforced its commitment to the research activities of Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness of Deusto University. To this end, it has renewed its commitment of support for the next four years and will promote the development of the Digital Economy Chair, recently created at the Institute. Orkestra’s Manifesto on the 10 main challenges facing the Basque Country in the future identifies the ‘digital economy’ as a crucial aspect in the development of the competitiveness of the Basque Country and, in this context, Euskaltel considers it important to participate in the processes of transformative research promoted by the Basque Institute of Competitiveness.
The presidents of Euskaltel, Alberto García Erauzkin, and Orkestra, Ignacio Mª Echeberria, have signed the agreement that renews the collaboration between both organisations until 2020. Euskaltel has been Global partner of the Institute since its creation in 2006, supporting research activities and promotion of transformation processes to improve the competitiveness of the Basque Country and the wellbeing of its citizens.
“Boosting the ‘digital economy’ is a strategic aspect in the economic and social evolution of the Basque Country” said the President of Orkestra, Ignacio Mª Echeberria. In this respect, Orkestra has assumed a commitment to provide the most complete vision of Basque economic reality in relation to emerging activities linked to digitalisation processes and their economic and social impact.
Orkestra is currently performing the first global diagnosis of the development of the ‘digital economy’ in the Basque Country. The results of this study will provide knowledge of the real situation and, on the basis of this data, define the development lines that will make it possible to drive the competitiveness of the Basque Country in this area.
Euskaltel, as a leading company in the telecommunications and ‘digital economy’ sector, recognises the importance of the activities developed by Orkestra since its creation and considers it necessary to continue supporting its work as a centre of knowledge connected with the industrial fabric, with the social and institutional agents of the region and with the main centres of international excellence. “At Euskaltel we work with the mission to contribute to the economic and social development of our Country. That is why supporting institutions like Orkestra, which leads transformative research to strengthen the competitiveness of the Basque Country as a Country, is part of the development of that mission”, said the President of Euskaltel, Alberto García Erauzkin.
