Cómo medir el progreso cartel horizontal

Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness of Deusto University will participate on July 28-29 in the course “How to measure the progress of a society?” which seeks to explore the current debate regarding the different indicators used to measure the evolution of societies and territories.

This is an opportunity to learn about different experiences regarding the use of different indicators complementary to GDP or Per Capita Income to assess the progress of a society, beyond strictly economic aspects. This debate has arisen given the evidence that a high GDP does not necessarily mean progress in terms of human development and social progress.

This course will address certain basic questions in this regard such as: what is the best system to measure the progress of a society?, or to what extent are these global monitoring systems employed to guide, evaluate and communicate the exercise of a public action directed towards improving quality of life and achieving sustainable development?

Susana Franco, Orkestar researcher, will speak at the meeting about the European Regional Social Progress Index and the positioning of the Basque Country in this context. In her speech she will explain the creation of this index, which shows the level of social progress attained in the Basque Country, and in which areas there are strengths and weaknesses. She will also present her vision regarding the usefulness of this index as a guidance tool when it comes to adopting political decisions.

This initiative, in which Eusko Ikaskuntza also collaborates, is organised by Zoriola Elkartea, a non-profit organisation that seeks to contribute to economic and social development from a global and humanist perspective and with special attention to the personal and professional development of young people.
