 GTECS Meeting Subnational Competitiveness

The Group of Experts on Subnational Competitiveness (GTECS) 2016 of the RIAC, network of which Orkestra is a member, will meet in Donostia, with the aim of sharing and reflecting upon challenges and solutions in the field of economic development and improved competitiveness.

The meeting organised by Orkestra, along with the Basque Government, the Inter-American Network on Competitiveness (RIAC) and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), will also seek to showcase the experience in Euskadi in the application of active policies in economic and industrial development.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for contact between companies and agents (public administrations, members of the Basque Network of Science and Technology, etc.) in this field and participants from various countries in America.

The theme of the 2016 GTECS congress is “Improvement in subnational competitiveness in diverse territorial contexts”.  This is a particularly appropriate theme, given the current momentum in various American countries with regard to the application of territorial policies for the development and improvement of competitiveness.

Europe’s experience, and more specifically, Euskadi’s, in the application of regional policies, will assist in the Exchange of experiences and good practice which will help lead to a better design and deployment of these processes.
Consequently, the meeting will seek to address such themes as:

  • The challenge of sustainability for development
  • Enterprise
  • Strategy for the Smart Specialisation of a territory
  • Evaluation of policies
  • Regional indicators and measurements
  • Multigovernance
  • Cluster policy
