Mikel Navarro is a Professor in Economics at Deusto Business School, of the University of Deusto, and Senior Researcher at Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness.
He currently leads the Microeconomics Of Competitiveness (MOC) course that is given in conjunction with Harvard's Institute of Strategy and Competitiveness.
He specializes in matters of industrial competition and innovation systems, fields in which he has published over a dozen books and more than 50 articles and scientific collaborations, in both national and international publications.
In his long academic career he has occupied different positions at the University of Deusto and at the Basque Institute of Competitiveness: he was the Academic Director at the Basque Institute of Competitiveness when it was founded, Vice-Dean of ESTE and Head of the Economics Department, and Member of the Doctoral Commission, among others.
Mikel is a current member of the mirror group of the Smart Specialisation Platform organized by the European Commission.
He is a member of the editorial board of 'Ekonomiaz', a journal for which he has organized three monograph issues (on clusters, regional innovation systems and smart specialization strategies) and of the editorial board of 'Uztaro'.
