International Women's Day
Tomorrow is 8th March, an important date to reflect on how the gender perspective influences competitiveness and wellbeing. At Orkestra, we have been analysing this relationship for years and making progress in our commitment to equality.
In this special issue of Competitiveness Insights, we share our team's contributions to our blog on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The 2024 Competitiveness Report focuses on inclusion as a driver of competitiveness and wellbeing and analyses three demographic characteristics - age, place of origin and gender - in relation to some of the most demanding challenges in the Basque Country.
The report quantifies many of the structural inequalities that exist between men and women and argues that the intrinsic value of women must be recognised in order to create fairer and more inclusive societies. Susana Franco and Mercedes Oleaga summarise the main conclusions of the analysis in this post.

In this post, Miren Larrea reflects on the transformation of gender roles in action research for territorial development: "The facilitation of our action research is feminine, because it is still women in particular who are attracted to and practice this art. At the same time, by working to stop it from being feminine, our facilitation and action research is feminist".

Who decides if our research is feminist?

Cobalt is a key resource for the digital and environmental transitions. Its high demand in industrialised countries has economic and geopolitical implications, but also strong social and environmental impacts in the areas where it is mined. In this post, Jaime Menéndez analyses the harsh and invisible reality of women and children involved in artisanal cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

We are proud to announce that our general director has just been recognised as the Best Manager in Gipuzkoa by Aspegi, the Association of Professional Women, Businesswomen and Managers of Gipuzkoa.
These awards, in their tenth edition, aim to highlight the talent and leadership of women in the territory and reinforce the idea that gender equality is a key driver for economic and social development.

| GENDER EQUALITY
|
Orkestra is firmly committed to diversity and to promoting policies that ensure equal treatment and opportunities. In February, we reached an important milestone towards this goal: our Board of Directors approved our first Gender Equality Plan, a roadmap to guarantee equal treatment and opportunities within Orkestra.
In line with European regulations, we have implemented a series of measures aimed at promoting real equality at all levels of the organisation.
