Mikel Navarro is re-elected member of the Mirror Group for Smart Specialisation at the European Commission

Mikel Navarro, Senior Researcher at Orkestra’s Territory, Innovation and Clusters Department and Professor of Economics at Deusto University has been re-elected member of the Smart Specialisation Mirror Group (S3 Platform) at the European Commission.

The S3 Platform has 25 members, including academics from diverse parts of Europe, economists from institutions such as the OECD and the World Bank and senior officials from other European institutions that work to promote regional competitiveness.

The taught stage of the Business Competitiveness and Economic Development Doctoral Programme is now over

During the first month of the year, a group of fifteen students participated in the seminars “Innovation Systems, Growth and Territorial Competitiveness” and “Entrepreneurship” of the Business Competitiveness and Economic Development Doctoral Programme. The sessions were conducted by a group of lecturers from Orkestra (Davide Parrili –director of the PhD programme–, James Wilson, Iñaki Peña, Maribel Guerrero y José Luis González) and Deusto Business School and by, international experts invited to participate in the programme; such as, Sandro Montresor, from the University of Bologna and the Institute for Prospective Technologies of the EU in Sevilla, and Jolanthe Hessels, of the Rotterdam Management School. Having completed the taught part of the course, doctoral students from Belarus, Colombia, Luxembourg, Mexico, Oman, Russia, Spain, Switzerland and United Arab Emirates will now focus their energy on writing their doctoral thesis.

 
Eloy Álvarez Pelegry participated in the presentation of the white book of Smart Cities (Libro Blanco Smart Cities), presented within the 1st National Conference on New City Models in Barakaldo

The Director of the Energy Department, Eloy Álvarez Pelegry, took part in the 1st National Conference on New City Models, organised by the Barakaldo Town Hall. During the conference the Barakaldo Mayor, Tontxu Rodríguez, and the President of the Development Agency Inguralde, Alfonso García, presented the white book for smart cities (Libro Blanco Smart Cities).

The book aims to pass on ideas so that those responsible for the management of cities take into consideration the need to evolve towards an efficient and sustainable model, reflecting on key themes for Smart Cities, such as government, mobility, sustainability, population and economy. This edition is the result of the collaboration between Enerlis, Ferrovial, Madrid Network and Cambio Climático Ernst & Young. The aeronautic industry emerges as the engine of the Basque Country's industry, according to a study carried out by Orkestra and Eusko Ikaskuntza

Orkestra, Eusko Ikaskuntza and the Basque Aerospace Cluster (HEGAN), have presented the book:- “El clúster de la industria aeronáutica y espacial del País Vasco: orígenes, evolución y trayectoria competitiva” in the AIC-Automotive Intelligence Center.

The book analyses the historic trajectory of the aerospace cluster since its creation in the 80s up until now. The report shows the evolution of the cluster as a clear example of success becoming one of the main driving forces of the Basque economy. During its 20 year history, and despite the current economic situation, 1400 million Euros have been invoiced and more than 12,000 jobs have been created in its many production centers spread around the world.
