Basque company wins European entrepreneur prize in France

Chicisimo, a Basque company that has set up a social network about fashion and trends, has won the European prize in Nice (France) for the most entrepreneurial company and the one with the greatest capacity for expansion awarded by the Sophia- Antípolis Business Angels Association Venture Academy.

International experts highlight the need to cooperate in order to face global challenges

7th October 2010- Orkestra- Basque Institute of Competitiveness and the Institute of Democratic Governance are today concluding the Governing the Global Risk seminar. Dynakin awarded by Crecer+ Venture Academy

Tomás Orbea, General Manager of SPRI, awarded the prize to the company considered as best prepared to expand its business and attract outside capital at the First Venture Academy organized by the Crecer+ platform last 17th of September. The day-long event was held in San Sebastian at the “Kutxa Espacio de la Ciencia” science museum.

Orkestra and the University of Berkeley joining forces

José Luis Curbelo, General Manager of Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness, and AnnaLee Saxenian, Dean of the School of Information and member of the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, today signed a strategic alliance agreement to promote and enhance research on competitiveness.

Lehendakari López witnessed the signature between the two parties as part of his official visit to the United States.

According to the GEM Report for the Basque Country 2009, 2.75% of the Basque labor force has founded a company within the past 42 months.

The study’s data show that the Basque Country ended 2009 with a rate of corporate closure or abandonment of 1.35%, its worst result in the past six years.

San Sebastian, July 26, 2010 - Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness and Eusko Ikaskuntza published today the 2009 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) study, developed by researchers at the University of Deusto, Mondragón University and UPV-EHU.

The study examines entrepreneurial behavior in the Basque Country and compares the region’s business startups to Spain’s other regions and other countries. It also provides an internal comparison of the current situation for entrepreneurs residing in the different parts of the region.
