José Luis Curbelo, General Manager of Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness, and AnnaLee Saxenian, Dean of the School of Information and member of the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, today signed a strategic alliance agreement to promote and enhance research on competitiveness.
Lehendakari López witnessed the signature between the two parties as part of his official visit to the United States.

- According to the GEM Report for the Basque Country 2009, 2.75% of the Basque labor force has founded a company within the past 42 months.
- The study’s data show that the Basque Country ended 2009 with a rate of corporate closure or abandonment of 1.35%, its worst result in the past six years.
San Sebastian, July 26, 2010 - Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness and Eusko Ikaskuntza published today the 2009 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) study, developed by researchers at the University of Deusto, Mondragón University and UPV-EHU.
The study examines entrepreneurial behavior in the Basque Country and compares the region’s business startups to Spain’s other regions and other countries. It also provides an internal comparison of the current situation for entrepreneurs residing in the different parts of the region.
