The aim of the workshop was to provide a space for discussing theoretical, empirical, and methodological papers related to the role of innovation systems in clusters that belong to global value chains. Academics from research centers such as Cardiff and Manchester (United Kingdom), Lund (Sweden), Piemonte Orientale (Italy), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, UPV/EHU and Orkestra, among others, presented and discussed their papers with the other participants. Phillip Cooke (Cardiff University), Hubert Schmitz (Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex-UK) and Henry W. Yeung (National University of Singapore) participated as keynote speakers.
